Many people living in Atmore will spend the rest of the week cleaning up after heavy rains caused flash-flooding. Water pushed inside dozens of homes and businesses and flooded countless cars. Many vehicles stalled out and were inoperable.
93-year old Marcelete Harris had a frightening night. The retired school teacher was trapped by flood waters inside her home. A neighbor had to rescue her and pull her to safety.
"I believe I heard some water running or dripping," says Harris. Harris says the sound became louder and within minutes a river was running through her living room. Harris' carpet was destroyed along with several pieces of furniture.
"Oh things were floating in the house," says Harris. "But I do have a lot to be thankful for. I'm alive."
The man who rescued Harris is also a flood victim. William Stotts says repairing his water damaged house will cost him tens of thousands of dollars.
"It's going to be a little tough at Christmas," says Stotts. "Times are higher, they're even harder now."
Across town at the Pine Apartments, cars were underwater and several homes were damaged.
"I've never seen the rain that long and that hard in my whole life," says David Ephriam. "It started raining here about four and by 830, it was still raining."
