Baldwin County Sheriff's investigators are once again looking for a police impersonator. They say the man struck again Wednesday night at about 10 O'Clock, stopping a 19 year old male driver on Highway 59 near Stapleton.
This latest incident fits the M.O. of previous incidents reported more than a year ago. The driver described the car driven by the fake officer as a dark sedan with blue lights in the grill. The man was described as a white male, wearing baggy pants and a polo shirt.
The driver decided the stop was unsafe and drove off, looking for a well lit, more secure area to stop. And that's exactly what he should have done, according to Major Anthony Lowery of the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office. The alleged officer turned off his lights, turned around, and drove away.
Just over a year ago, two women reported being stopped by someone pretending to be a cop in the same general area, Highway 31 east at Highway 59. The Sheriff's department developed and questioned a suspect in the wake of those incidents but were unable to bring charges.
