A heartbreaking story of vandalism now has a happy ending.
Earlier this week, News Five first told you the story of vandals striking the Mulherin Custodial Home in Mobile.
It's a place for adults and children with mental disabilities.
But this Christmas will be a special one for residents, thanks to the generosity of some business people in Mobile.
Assistant Director Melody Gartman said when she got to work Tuesday, she found "stuff was destroyed along the front. All the lights were ripped off the bushes. The bulbs were crashed. The cords were ripped up."
And, the front office window was shattered: all by vandals on Monday night.
Gartman said, she had a hard time thinking that, this time of the year, "Christmas, holiday season, there was a grinch."
But the grinch didn't win.
Workers from the Shed Bar-B-Q Restaurant in Mobile came to the home Thursday afternoon bearing decorations they and other businesses had bought.
The managing partner of the The Shed, Darrin Jasgur, said, "We brought all sorts of inflatables to put up around. We got some little happy holidays stuff to go in the ground."
Darrin's wife, Jennifer, said, "We couldn't let this go by. We had to take care of it."
Gartman said, "Its such a blessing, the community support. There's not even words to say."
But residents had a lot to say about Christmas and what they hope Santa brings.
Debbie Celantano said she wanted slippers.
Marie Burroughs said she wanted shoes.
Brian Smith said he wanted a bowling ball.
