Medical Student Talks about $123K Win

USA Medical Student Sarah Beth Hill talks about winning $123K Scholarship at the S.E.C. Championship

It was a throw worth 123 thousand dollars for Sarah Beth Hill. The Huntsville native and U.S.A. medical student got to the Georgia Dome with a simple purchase of four bottles of Dr. Pepper.

"We entered the bottle cap code on their website and it pops up and says I'm sorry you're not a winner," she said. But a short time later she did get a call telling her she'd be competing at halftime at the S.E.C. Championship in the Dr. Pepper 'Throw for Scholarship Dough' competition.

"The first, the second person I told about this after I found out was my Dad and he said, well you need to find a coach," said Sarah Beth.

It only makes sense that when you need a football coach at the University of South Alabama, you go to the USA Jags football complex.

"I emailed the head coach who called me back within about an hour I think and he set me up with Coach Bedsole who helped me a lot," she said. We practiced everyday.

"Well it just continues what we started this year," said Bedsole. "You know with the football program going undefeated and now we've got another member of our team that's gone undefeated."

The coaching turned out to be key. Pacing her throws and taking her time, Bedsole had her practice against the clock.

"And you can tell that her competitor had not done any timing at all," said the Coach. "He finished so quickly and thought that that forty-five seconds was a very short time and actually it's a long time."

But lest you think its all papparazzi and limos from her on out, think again. As hard as Sarah Beth worked to win this competition, she's working even harder to become a doctor.

"After all the crazy excitement from this weekend I had to come right back--had to study a lot last night and take a microbiology exam this morning," she told us. We bet she passed.

She says the scholarship money should just about cover the rest of her medical education.
