A Birmingham woman says her husband died from the stress of being wrongfully imprisoned for the sexual abuse of two young girls, and she wants nearly $2 million in compensation from the state.

The Legislature has already agreed to provide $129,000 to Donna Doyle, but she is seeking another $1.8 million to cover legal expenses, medical costs and other expenditures. Her husband, Bob Doyle, was convicted in 1992. State courts overturned his conviction in 2000, and he was freed from prison. He died from
heart problems in 2007.

The Legislature's Wrongful Incarceration Committee plans to make a recommendation to the full Legislature next month. The largest amount ever awarded by the Legislature for wrongful incarceration has been $1 million.
