A man wanted on federal drug warrants leads police on a chase that leaves a Summerdale cop car in flames. It happened at around six this evening, 12/6/09. Elberta Police say they attempted to arrest 27-year-old John Heath Carter on outstanding federal drug warrants. This started a police chase that ended when Carter's car slammed into a utility pole followed by an Elberta and Summerdale police cruiser. Dry grass under the Summerdale car ignited, destroying the cruiser. Both officers were treated and released for smoke inhalation, but the suspect was able to run away from the crash.
“The fugitive's still at large we've looked for him most of the evening still haven't found him, the search is still underway at this point,” says Elberta Police Chief Mickey Pledger. Police are looking for 27-year-old John Heath Carter. He's a white male, weighing 170 pounds. If you have any information you're asked to contact Elberta police.
