Mobile Police crime scene investigators were back in a Whistler neighborhood just off Bear Fork Road. They were looking for evidence they hope can lead them to a killer.
While this neighborhood has it's share of crime it's the first time in memory for violent crime.
"Folks breaking in houses and cars..it's been a terrible neighborhood since I been up here," said Chris Dixon.
"It was shocking to know someone could be murdered so close to where I live and I was actually in the house by myself when I heard about it." Brittany Miller lives only two doors down from the victim, 63 year old Jo Ellen Russell. Russell was apparently shot to death after she had pulled onto Brucewood Drive from her own driveway. People who live around her said she led a quiet life.
Anthony Stewart lives right next door. " I didn't talk to her much but I see her come in everyday. She'd wave at me, get her mail out of the box then she'd go into the house and you wouldn't see her until the next day, same routine everyday. I never knew her name but I know she kept to herself," he said.
Since her murder early Thursday morning, many people here are now seeing this neighborhood in a different light.
"Just being concerned, just looking out," said Candis Brown.
Miller adds, "Just be a little more cautious because I do leave out of the house all the time when its late by myself and I'm going to have to be more aware and more careful and stay in the house since it was brought to my attention that the neighborhood has gone downhill."
