Nasty weather left its mark on Dauphin Island. Water, sand, and debris covered the roads Wednesday morning on the island's west end. But, Mayor Jeff Collier says the damage was not as bad as they were expecting. Giant sand dunes lined the road, leftover from Tropical Storm Ida. There were concerns that sand could be blown back onto the road, "that didn't happen and so our turn around after this one ought to be pretty quick. People can get to and from the west end with regular vehicles. We can get emergency vehicles there as well so that's our main goal, anything else will fall into place," said Collier. The mayor says they're still waiting to hear whether Tropical Storm Ida's damage to Dauphin Island will be declared a federal disaster. Once they get word, he says they will start moving the leftover sand from the side of the road back onto the beach.
