Bill's notes on spending the evening on Dauphin Island.
Earlier in the afternoon, talked with Dauphin Island Mayor Jeff Collier. They have some mild concern about flooding on the west end, which is normal. Without the berm that hasn't been there since Hurricane Ivan, even the slightest weather system has sent water and sand onto the roadway.
We talked with Stan Alford who runs 'The Common Loon Carry-Out Cafe and Market.' Biggest inconvenience is power outage since all the power lines at some point run across the Mississippi Sound to the Island. When we left, closed to 11pm, power was still on.
Just a month ago, Dauphin Island crews were tasked with removing sand from the west end road. It is still there, only piled up in berms on the side of the road. It looks like snowdrifts. Mayor Collier says its hard to determine how long it might take to clean up from a storm like this since they don't yet know what mother nature will leave behind.
