Mobile, Ala. – The local Crime Stoppers office as well as Crime Stoppers USA and the Mobile Police Department are warning the public against reporting crime tips via the Crime Stoppers Online website (www.crimestoppersonline.com). Crime Stoppers Online is in no way affiliated with Crime Stoppers USA; therefore, the legitimate organization cannot guarantee the receipt of tips, the anonymity of tipsters, or that the crime is being fully investigated. The Crime Stoppers USA legal advisor, Judge Richard Carter, has asked the operators of the site to cease on the grounds that they are misrepresenting themselves as the legitimate organization. Although minor changes have been made to the site, it is still in operation to date. Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization of citizens against crime. Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards of up to $1000 to anyone furnishing anonymous information that leads to the arrest of criminals, including those committing serious felony crimes, and fugitives. Information is received through anonymous Crime Stoppers tips that are received through a secure tips line or through a secure web connection manned by a professional program coordinator. Each caller is assigned a code number for the purpose of insuring anonymity. For more information or to submit a tip regarding a crime, call our local Crime Stoppers office at 208-7000.
