The Mobile Police Department is honoring one of it's officers for saving an elderly man's life.

According to police, Admire Gant noticed an elderly man stagger out of the McDonald’s (2692 Government Blvd) on July 13. He recognized the man’s gestures as a sign that he was choking.

According to 75 year old Earsell Stanberry, he was about to lose consciousness when Gant performed the Heimlich maneuver and dislodged a piece of food that was blocking his airway.

Stanberry said he just happened to notice Gant in the parking lot when he walked into the restaurant to get breakfast. So when Stanberry realized he was choking, he knew where to turn for help.

“I might not be here now if he wasn’t there that day,” Stanberry said.
