“I'm going to miss his smile, I'm going to miss his big brown eyes, I'm just going to miss him,” says mother Johnnie Rochelle Mickles. She was recounting what she loved best about her son Tevin. Saraland Police say he was shot near Rufus Harbin City Park Friday night, 8/14/2009. He was flown to USA Medical Center and later died from his injuries.
“He didn't have any enemies at all everybody around here in the neighborhood loved Tevin little kids always knocking on my door for Tevin,” says his mother. Johnnie says her son was a good student who studied hard and excelled in art. She says he loved sports and basketball. Family and friends gathered at Tevin's home today, 8/15/2009. They say they'll remember him as the kid with the big smile.
“He'd have that big smile and I'd say pull them pants up, pull them pants up, and he'd look at me and smile and keep on walking and I'd go pull his pants up,” says family friend Doris Payne with a smile. A wake will be next Saturday at 10 am at the Third Baptist Church in Whistler. A funeral service will follow. The victim’s mother says they will also start a fund in Tevin’s name at the Wachovia Bank on Dauphin Street. So far, police say they have made no arrests. They are questioning two juveniles. No names have been released due to their ages.
