PRICHARD, Ala. (AP) - Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s name will not be on
the $640 million motorsports park planned off Interstate 65.
Bill Futterer of PSE-3 and Futterer Partners says the company is
not extending personal services agreements for Earnhardt, his
sister Kelly Earnhardt Elledge or his race-driver brother, Kerry
Earnhardt.
Gulf Coast Entertainment, the group of 30 investors in the project, want a name reflecting a total entertainment complex instead of just a race venue.
The project includes three tracks and an RV park on the
2,400-acre site and could also draw hotels, entertainment and
retail venues to the area. Developers estimate the project could
create 4,800 jobs.
Officials are hoping for a 2011 opening, but are scrambling to
get financing to meet that schedule.
