200 students will return to class this year in a new school. Teachers, parents and students celebrated the grand opening of the new and improved St. Luke's Episcopal Middle and Upper school in Mobile today, Sunday, August 09, 2009. The school was recently renovated. It was something they’ve been working on since 2008. The new campus is 200 acres, and includes an 800 seat theatre.
"It means a lot of space for us to do a lot of neat things with kids in the community, we still have our Japonica campus which will be our elementary school and this campus has a collegiate feel,” says Headmaster Palmer Kennedy. The new school cost more than $10 million for the total project. Grades 6 through 9 will go to class in the new facilities. The school now sits on the site of the former Julius T Wright School for Girls. Classes start August 17th.
