Some Mobile soldiers got a hero's welcome today, Sunday, August 09, 2009. A special ceremony was held for members of the 1184th Deployment and Distribution Support Battalion this morning. It was family photo-op for staff Sergeant Randy Thames as his wife whipped out her iPhone to take a picture. Randy says it’s great to have more time with his family.
“Being with my wife and children, being able to play with them and be around the house outside, and going to church,” says Randy Thames. He's one of the dozens of soldiers being recognized in a special welcome home ceremony for this US Army reserve unit. No one was lost in this latest tour of duty. It was a relief for family members.
“I’m just happy to see everyone here, everyone made there and back safely to you know it's a blessing,” says Randy’s wife Crystal Thames. The unit had been deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait for 10 months. They returned state-side in April. Today was their official welcome home ceremony after a few weeks of leave-time for readjustment.
