Sales Tax Holiday Benefits Teachers

6th grade teacher Clarice Wiley is hunts for the perfect welcome sign for her class.

“I want them to know how glad I am to see them, I miss them from the whole summer and I want them to feel at home,” says Wiley. She says she saves up all year for this weekend.

“I love going out spending my own money for supplies so they'll be able to learn, teaching is my passion, it's a calling from god to teach in the school system,” says Wiley. Some of the teachers I spoke with this afternoon say the sales tax free weekend allows them to help several students in their own classroom.

“When they run out of their supplies I have supplies to give to them so there won't be an excuse for not learning,” says Wiley. It's a big relief to skip that sales tax.

“We were told we weren't getting a stipend this year so being able to shop those things that I know I'm going to use in my classroom to assist my students especially for those that aren't able to afford them makes a huge difference for me,” says teacher Mary Fountain. Retailers at Davie's School Supply say this has been a very good weekend for them. They say it's like Christmas in the summer.
