If you haven't been shopping in a while, this is a great weekend to go.
The 2009 sales tax holiday weekend began at midnight Friday in Mobile and many other area cities.
You can buy many items free of state sales tax.
Many people drove to Mobile from rural areas on Friday to take advantage of the wide selections.
Morgan Agerton came to the Target Store in Bel-Air Mall with a group of other people from Excel, near Monroeville.
When asked why she came, Agerton said, "Its Mobile. Mobile is where we get our stuff."
Lori Johnson and her daughter came down from Chatom.
Johnson said, "I don't mind fighting the crowds because you don't have to worry about the taxes."
When you think of the tax free holidays, normally you think about school supplies. But a lot of people forget you can get tax off clothes, too,
Stores like Hourlgass in Bel Air Mall also reported doing a brisk business.
Hourglass Manager Rachelle Isakson said, "There's been a lot of people that have come in and checked out and, they're like, 'Wait its tax free, really?' They just had no idea."
Angelia Adams of Mobile said, "I'm out to shop for my daughter. I've found her book bag, her shoes, tops and bottoms, and they're a very reasonable price."
And some items on the tax exempt list that might surprise you.
Soon to be mom Shannon Pridgen didn't know diapers were exempt.
When asked if she was going to buy some now, she said, "Absolutely, absolutely."
The sales tax holiday ends Sunday at midnight.
