BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - U.S Marshals have raided a Louisiana
sandwich company, seizing tuna salad sandwiches and other food
after inspectors found widespread rodent and insect infestations.
No illnesses have been reported.
The Bearden Sandwich Company Inc. in Baton Rouge, doing business
as Southern Belle Sandwich Company, distributes products to
convenience and retail stores in southern Louisiana; Mobile and
Montgomery, Ala.; and Crestview, Fla.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says in a statement that
the seized products were prepared, packed and held under unsanitary
conditions and may have become "contaminated with filth or
rendered injurious to the public's health."
A call to the company was not answered.
