What has 81 acres of land to explore, live animals for you to touch, and volunteers to tell you everything you want to know about the Mobile Delta?
Free Friday takes you to 5 Rivers.
You'll see how Alabama's Resource Center in Spanish Fort is a goldmine for families.
The beauty created by the blending of five waterways is breathtaking.
Learning about the creatures who live here is exciting.
Justin Shaw recently enjoyed a trip to 5 Rivers with his wife and 6 year old daughter, Clarissa.
"I think the enthusiasm..the people that are here, the volunteers and everything is really surprising to me and the fact that they really enjoy what they're doing and getting the message out. I think it's a great resource, and great for the little kids to ask the questions and have people to answer the questions too", says Shaw.
Clarissa got to touch Miss Loretta, affectionately known as the awesomest possomist around!
"We are blessed in this part of Alabama with so many different kinds of snakes. So many different kinds of turtles, and we've got the only marsupial in north america and they can be hands on with it, says Shonda Borden.
Children may also get the chance to feed Hunter, a snapping turtle who loves to feast on beetle larva.
"They've got legs..six legs which let you know that this is an insect", says Borden as she prepares to drop the larva in Hunter's aquarium.
Food is no longer required for some animals here at 5 Rivers, while others merely glide their way through life. Volunteers handle snakes allowing you feel how smooth they are, and it doesn't cost you a thing.
Admission to the four thousand square foot exhibit hall is free.
They also have more than 70 movies you can watch for free in their Tensaw Theatre. Every Sunday afternoon starting at 2, they have a matinee. Or any day of the week, you can request a movie of your choice.
You're welcome to get as hands on as you want, or just enjoy the scenery.
"We have this beautiful Mobile Tensaw Delta as our backyard. How many places can you go to and see the kind of view that we have back here", says Borden.
5 Rivers has free classes on Saturdays which often comes with a free snack, nature walk and a boat trail.
Classes are on different topics from Alabama turtles to backyard habitats, to fun with feathered friends to alternative energy.
The free movie showing this Sunday, August 9th, is "A Bee Movie". August 16th, "Crane Song", and the following Sunday.."Life in Cold Blood: Armored Giants".
