Mobile and Baldwin County schools start next week, and parents are busy shopping for back to school bargains.
The National Retail Federation estimates parents will spend $548.72 per school age child, which is actually down 12% from last year.
"We're getting some school shoes for my little man," says Leigha Little, who is back to school shopping for the first time with her Kindergarten son. While many parents spread out the shopping over several weeks, some are waiting until this weekend to buy supplies tax-free.
Alabama's tax-free holiday begins Friday and ends Sunday. Eligible purchases include any school supply that costs less than $50 per item, clothes less than $100 each and a computer with a pricetag of $750 or less.
