MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A Mobile police officer has been reassigned
to administrative duty during an investigation of an arrest that
was caught on video at the end of a police chase.
Police Chief Philip Garrett made the announcement Tuesday
regarding the July 23 arrest of 34-year-old David Andrew Pate,
whose jail picture shows cuts and bruises across his forehead, nose
and below the eyes.
The video, captured by a spectator and posted on YouTube about a
week ago, shows an officer raising his arm several times but the
angle does not show what is being struck.
Garrett said the officer's name won't be released. He said part
of the investigation involves how Pate's injuries came about.
Records at the Mobile County Metro Jail show Pate was charged
with first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree kidnapping and
third-degree domestic violence.
