A fast moving thunderstorm may have obliterated a Prichard home. Neighbors say lightning struck a house near the corner of Mount Sinai Avenue and St. Stephens Road at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, August 01, 2009. Fire quickly engulfed the one-story brick building. Prichard firefighters at the scene didn't report any injuries. Neighbors say they believe the house was empty. One person says he saw lightning hit the home.

“Well actually it scared me I jumped and you know it spooked me because it was so loud it sounded like a bomb had went off,” says Devoris Dilliard. He says he saw lightning hit the house.
At one point the fire spread to nearby trees. No other damage was reported. Prichard officials say the exact cause is still under investigation. They say the home had no valuables inside, but wasn't abandoned. It's considered a total loss.
