BREAKING NEWS
The swine flu is taking a toll on high school sports in Alabama.
Wednesday night, the Alabama High School Athletic Association announced it is shutting down all high school athletic events, including playoff games, until further notice due to probable cases of swine flu in North Alabama.
“This is not something we want to do,” said Steve Savarese, Executive Director of the AHSAA. “Right now, we want to be cautious.”
That means the state track and field championships scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Gulf Shores will be rescheduled.
All other post-season activities scheduled through Monday May 4 are also being postponed. This will impact seven high schools in the News 5 viewing area scheduled to play this weekend in the third round of the baseball state championship.
