The families of two Okaloosa County deputies killed in the line of duty have released their first statements since Saturday's shooting.

Deputies Warren "Skip" York and Burt Lopez were shot and killed while attempting to arrest a domestic violence suspect at the Shoal River Gun Club in Crestview.

In a statement released through the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, York's family says: “We want to express our appreciation for all the tremendous support we have been receiving from not only the members of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, but the entire community as well. Our family has found the outpouring of food, flowers, and offers of assistance very helpful during this tremendously difficult time. To Skip, the men and women of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office have always been his brothers and sisters. We want to take an opportunity to let everyone know that their thoughts and numerous gestures of support are bringing us great comfort and we are truly grateful. Please continue to keep us in your prayers.”

The Lopez family's statement says: "It is difficult to put into words our gratitude for the strong outpouring of support we have been receiving. We want to ask you to keep us in your prayers during our time of need. We will be making an announcement in the near future as to our collaboration with a charitable organization to establish a memorial fund to honor Burt's memory. Burt was a fabulous family man who made a strong positive impression on virtually everyone he met. During this time of intense grief, we ask everyone to remember Burt in that light. There are too many people to name to list all of those who've been such a help and comfort to our family. Please know that you are making a difference and we thank you."

A joint visitation for the officers will be held Wednesday from 5pm-9pm at the Crestview Community Center.

The funeral service for Lopez is scheduled for 3pm Thursday at Central Baptist Church in Crestview followed by his burial at Heritage Gardens Cemetery.

The funeral service for York will be held at 10am at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Fort Walton Beach followed by his burial at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.
