BREAKING NEWS

A federal judge ruled Marcus Schrenker, the pilot accused of trying to faking his own death, is competent to stand trial.

Authorities say Schrenker put his small plane on autopilot January 11 and bailed out near Birmingham after making false distress calls. He then sped away on a motorcycle. The plane crashed in Milton, Florida.

Schrenker was found two days later at a KOA campground near Tallahassee. The FBI says he slit his wrists in a failed suicide attempt.

In a letter to the Associated Press, Schrenker said that he "snapped." He said his business and marriage were collapsing. Schrenker said he never asked for help and then it "all came crashing down around me."

Schrenker was a money manager in Indiana. He's accused of bilking investors and then trying to fake his own death to avoid going to jail.

Schrenker's trial will start June 8th in Penscola.
