Fairhope Middle School Evacuated

4:33 p.m.
- School officials believe a student brought the pepper spray. If they're caught, the student could be expelled.

4:07 p.m.
- Fire officials have given the all clear at Fairhope Middle School.
- Pepper spray, not smoke, caused the foul odor.
- Classes will resume tomorrow at its regularly scheduled time.

2:45 p.m.
- Students are still being kept outside as a precaution.
- School will be dismissed at its regular time.
- Parents picking up their children need to go to the west side of the campus.
- Bus riders will be moved to the Fairhope High School gym and will leave on their regular bus routes.
- Parents who wish to pick up their children early may do so.

2:01 p.m.
Fairhope Middle School has been evacuated because of a smell of smoke in the building.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the smoke, but Baldwin County Schools spokesperson Terry Wilhite tells News 5 that all students are safe. Wilhite says an air conditioning unit could be leaking Freon.

Students will remain outside until fire officials give the all clear.
