BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The Greater Alabama Council Boy Scouts
of America have launched a campaign to promote green efforts to
protect the environment.
The "2009 Green BSA - Leave No Trace" campaign was part of an
Earth Day kickoff celebration in Liberty Park just off Interstate
459.
The man pushing the campaign, Dixon Brooke, said the
Birmingham-based group is the first Boy Scouts council in the
nation to start an organized internal "go green" effort and offer
a badge or award honoring scouts and chapters that promote being
good stewards of the environment.
The campaign will promote recycling at scouting properties and
camps, the use of biodegradable products and partnerships with
organizations and companies that support environmentally friendly
initiatives.
