Illegal Bingo Machines Won't Be Returned

The Alabama Supreme Court says that fornow Gov. Bob Riley's task force on illegal gambling can hold ontogaming machines and cash seized in a raid at an electronic bingofacility in Lowndes County.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Supreme Court says that for
now Gov. Bob Riley's task force on illegal gambling can hold onto
gaming machines and cash seized in a raid at an electronic bingo
facility in Lowndes County.
The court Friday stayed an order by former Supreme Court Justice
Mark Kennedy. Kennedy had ordered that all machines and cash seized
in the March raid be returned to operators of the facility in White
Hall.
The governor's office argued that Kennedy should have stepped
down from hearing the case because he has done work for the Poarch
Creek Indian Tribe. The tribe operates electronic bingo machines at
facilities in Montgomery, Wetumpka and Atmore.
