Wednesday is tax deadline day, but its also tax protest day in Mobile and around the country.
People who are upset about taxes and what they call over spending by the government are holding tea parties.
Nikki Carey Nicholson is part of a group called the Mobile Tea Party.
Members have already drawn up signs and plan to hold a rally Wednesday afternoon reminiscent of the Boston Tea Party.
When asked what the group is upset about, Nicholson said. "Over taxing, and all the spending that is going on in Washington and how big the government's gotten. Our forefathers did not ever intend for the government to get as big as it is."
Beginning at noon, Mobile Tea Party members plan to walk from Government Plaza to Cooper Riverside Park carrying signs.
There will be speakers at the park and information booths.
Nicholson said, "We hope that Congress will listen to us and (want to) let them know that we, as the people of the United States, are fed up."
Gene Labrato is with the Fairhope Tea Party and is helping to plan a similar rally at the Fairhope Pier.
Labrato said, "I would hope to accomplish a future for myself: a future that's worth living where I'm not oppressed by taxes, I'm not oppressed by government and their imaginary demons like global warming."
During the original Boston Tea Party, American colonists threw tea into the waters of Boston Harbor.
When asked if members of the Mobile Tea Party would throw tea into the Mobile River, Nicholson said, "If we do, we will not throw the paper in there, so we will not be littering. And some people are actually just going to pour tea that's already made."
