Bar Fight At Council Meeting

A bar fight takes center stage during a two hour public hearing.

A Dauphin Street night club could be forced to shut its doors, if neighbors fed up with the club get their way.

The bar fight took center stage at Mobile's city council meeting, when owners of the Alabama Music Box were forced to defend their bar for the second time in seven months.

"I have no intentions of apologizing for anything. I shouldn't even be here, and it's costing me loads of money to pay for a lawyer to defend me," said David Matthews, one of the co-owners.

Neighbors who live near the club asked the council to revoke the bar's business license after they say Alabama Music Box patrons were caught on a surveillance camera exposing body parts, urinating on the sidewalk and playing the drums outside the bar.

"They were a nuissance, and they had an attitude about it," says Chuck Nickles, who lived across the street from the club, but moved after the noise became to much to bare.

After a two hour public hearing, the city council took no action on the issue. Council members suggested a resolution wouldn't happen until at least next week.
