3rd Precinct officer recognized for outstanding service.

The Mobile Police Department has announced Officer Jimmy Bailey has been named March 2009 Officer of the Month. Bailey has been with MPD for three years and is currently assigned to the 3rd Precinct. He will be honored at a ceremony next week.

In a news release, MPD says Officer Bailey is being recognized for exceptional work last month, including:

"The Third Precinct was experiencing an increase in residential burglaries in on specific area of the jurisdiction. Officer Bailey was tasked with curbing these crimes and he committed to apprehending the suspect by day’s in. He kept his promise and, within two hours, delivered suspect Ray Charles Garrett to detectives. Garrett was arrested and charged with Probation Revocation and Possession of Burglar’s Tools.

Following the arrest of Garrett, another suspect was identified by detectives and, again, Officer Bailey canvassed the area and delivered that suspect within the day. He was latter apprehended during the commission of a burglary.

On March 14, 2009 while working an extra job at Dillard’s Department Store in Colonial Bel-Air Mall, Officer Bailey was informed by store security that someone was suspected of shoplifting. Officer Bailey confronted the subject and recovered more than $1,100 in merchandise and well as unauthorized prescription medication. The suspect was arrested and charged with Theft of Property Second Degree and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Officer Bailey was also responsible for apprehending three fugitives with outstanding warrants. They were charged with numerous crimes including Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle, Rape First Degree, and Receiving Stolen Property Second Degree.

During the month of March, Officer Bailey was responsible for making nine felony and 12 misdemeanor arrests, as well as answering 79 calls for service and backing fellow officers 38 times. His persistent attention to detail and dedication to his job have significantly contributed to the success of the Mobile Police Department’s efforts to combat crime."
