In a news release issued this morning, the Mobile Chapter of the NAACP is calling on District Attorney John Tyson to resign. Local NAACP President Jimmie Gardner says Tyson has not been open to the public with details surrounding the abrupt resignation of former Assistant District Attorney Steve Giardini. He was the lead prosecutor on former Judge Herman Thomas's case involving charges of paddling and soliciting sex from young jail inmates. Giardini also was the top prosecutor on cases involving child sex cases. "The efforts to exposed allege criminal activities of ordinary citizens is no more important than exposing allege allegations of criminal activities within his own office. The citizens of Mobile deserved better than half- truths. District Attorney John Tyson Jr., as top law enforcement officer of this county, who is unproven in insuring public truth among all citizens, should consider stepping down", said Gardner.

As News 5's Jessica Taloney reported yesterday, the FBI executed a search warrant at Giardini's home. He resigned without explanation and Tyson's office will only say Giardini is no longer employed with the District Attorney's office. Giardini has not been arrested or charged with anything. Local defense attorney Dennis Knizely confirms he has been retained by Giardini.
