Premier Silvio Berlusconi says more than 150 people have been killed in an earthquake in mountainous central
Italy.
Berlusconi also says more than 1,500 people have been injured in the quake, which struck near the medieval town of L'Aquila before
dawn Monday.
The Italian leader gave the update about the country's deadliest quake in nearly three decades late Monday as he spoke by telephone
with a TV program in one of the networks he owns.

The medieval city of L'Aquila was hardest hit by the pre-dawn quake that rocked the Apennine mountains in central Italy early Monday.
Officials say that a university dormitory collapsed and a hotel was heavily damaged in L'Aquila. The quake struck about 70 miles (110 kilometers) northeast of Rome at 3:32 a.m
