BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford has been
placed on the federal government's Excluded Parties list and can no
longer conduct business with federal agencies.
Langford is barred from signing federal grant applications or
entering into agreements that involve federal money.
The mayor, Montgomery investment banker Bill Blount, and
lobbyist Al LaPierre are named in a 101-count indictment charging
them with conspiracy and bribery.
The three men deny wrongdoing and are scheduled for trial Aug.
31.
Blount, his firm Blount Parrish & Co., and LaPierre also were
placed on the Excluded Parties List.
Environmental Protection Agency spokesman Dale Kemery said the
decision to suspend the mayor's signing authority was made after an
EPA lawyer in Atlanta forwarded the case to EPA investigators in
Washington.
