NEW YORK (AP) - Letterman's not laughing.
"Late Show" host David Letterman has offered a second night of
jabs at John McCain, who canceled a Wednesday appearance on the
show.
Letterman said last night that he felt like an "ugly date"
because the McCain backed out of the appearance.
The comic was unhappy when McCain sat for an interview with
Katie Couric instead of him Wednesday. And he says he was
"steamed" when he later learned that McCain didn't leave New York
until yesterday.
Letterman said he felt like a "patriot" to let McCain off his
commitment to deal with the economy. But now says he feels "like
an ugly date," "used," "cheap," and "sullied."
A McCain spokeswoman says that the campaign believed Wednesday
"wasn't a night for comedy" and "deeply regrets offending Mr.
Letterman."
