ATLANTA (AP) - A spokesman for the governor says a suggestion by
a petroleum executive to cancel Saturday night's Alabama-Georgia
football game as a fuel-saving measure is "ridiculous."
Tex Pitfield, president and CEO of Atlanta-based Saragay
Petroleum, made the suggestion in an interview on WGAU radio
station in Athens.
Gov. Sonny Perdue spokesman Bert Brantley said, "The governor
is not going to consider a ridiculous idea like this. We're also
not going to stop living our lives."
Meanwhile, UGA Police Chief Jimmy Williamson said fans who can't
make a round trip on one tank should stay home.
