McLEAN, Va. (AP) - A federal judge in Virginia has rejected John
Allen Muhammad's appeal of his death sentence.
The mastermind of a 2002 killing spree in the Washington area
that left 10 people dead, Muhammad claims there were a number of
errors at his 2003 trial. But the judge has rejected all of
Muhammad's claims.
The appeal attorneys say the death row inmate should not have
been allowed to serve as his own lawyer because of mental illness.
There had been a stay of execution in place -- that has now been
lifted. Muhammad can still appeal to the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of
Appeals in Richmond, Virginia.
