A Mobile non-profit group has launched relief efforts to help victims of Hurricane Ike.
The group is called "Eye Of The Storm Relief."
Group founder Erin Akey said, "The small, coastal communities that are usually the hardest hit are not getting any media attention, so they are not getting the supplies they need."
The group plans to fill a truck with relief supplies and leave Friday night for Texas.
Group organizer Ben Akey said, "We've been blessed. We haven't been hit hard at all. This is our opportunity to bless somebody else."
Organizers say they need everything, but in particular items like diapers and canned goods.
Erin Akey said she started the relief group after going through Hurricane Katrina in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
She said, "Having to go back and tell my kids that every single thing they owned was gone: that was the worst part."
Kevin McCabe made a donation Wednesday afternoon.
He owns the Royal Street Cafe in downtown Mobile.
The restaurant was flooded during Katrina.
McCabe said, "I got closed down for six weeks and some people up in Ohio sent me some money, so I just wanted to do a little bit myself."
If you'd like to help, you can drop off donations at Christ United Methodist Church at the corner of Grelot Road and Hillcrest Road in Mobile.
The group is taking donations from 7 am to 9 pm.
