Former Alabama State Football Coach Dies

George James Junior, known as "The Houdini of Football" because he led the Hornets to several upsets, was 81 years old.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Former Alabama State University head
football coach George James Junior, has died. He was 81 years old.
The university said in a statement Monday, James coached the
Hornets from 1976 to 1983 and is best remembered for winning 7 of 8
games against in-state rival Tuskegee University.
James, known as "The Houdini of Football", because he led his
teams to several upsets, compiled an overall record of 41-39-3 at
ASU.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, and three children.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Old Ship AME
Zion Church in Montgomery.
