Have you ever wanted to go somewhere, but didn't have transportation? For dozens of senior citizens, that frustration ended today.
Mobile County Commissioner Steve Nodine drove up to the AHEPA 310 Apartments in Semmes with a brand new 15-passenger, wheelchair accessbile van.
With the help of a grant, the residents will now be able to go to their doctor appointments and run other important errands.
The commission felt the need to supply a van after one of the units caught on fire, but there wasn't any transportation to evacuate the residents.
"A lot of them don't have family members that can come and take them. A lot of them don't have family members that live around here that can take them to the doctor. This van is going to be very, very beneficial for them," said AHEPA 310 Property Manager Debra Rand.
Mobile County Commissioner Steve Nodine says the vehicle will also be used if the residents need to evacuate during a hurricane.
