MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Its been a long summer for the men and
women who fight wildfires.
According to the Alabama Forestry Commission, the final crew of
firefighters have returned to the state from wildfire details in
the western U.S.
Since February, Alabama sent 12 separate crews to assist the
Texas Forest Service. The final team returned Aug. 22.
The commission also sent firefighters to battle wildfires in
California and Virginia.
Alabama foresters said the requests for assistance come under
the Southern Compact, which is a mutual aid agreement between the
southern states to provide firefighting crews when needed.
