Update 8:30 p.m.
Sheriff's deputies, volunteer firefighters and high-tech computer equipment are being credited for saving an 83 year old man's life in Baldwin County Thursday night.
William koier has alzheimer's..he got lost in a wooded area behind his home in elsanor.
Sheriff's deputies located Koier and reunited the man with his wife.
He had been missing for more than five hours.
Koier is a member of "project lifesaver" and was wearing a monitoring device on his wrist.
Update 7:15 p.m.
- The man has been found by officers. They are walking him out of the woods. police say he is not hurt.
Update 6:55 p.m.
- Captain Steve Williams with the Elsanor Fire Department says they are looking for an 83yr old man at the end of Koier Rd off Hwy 90 in Elsanor.
- Williams says the man is wearing a dark jacket, wearing dark blue pants, he apparently took his shirt off but they think he still has the jacket on.
- He has a Project Lifesaver locator on his wrist and officers are tracking the signal.
Update 6:45 p.m.
A search is underway for a missing Alzheimer's patient in the Elsanor community.
Search and rescue teams concentrating on an area near Hwy 90 and Greek Cemetery Road.
Sheriff's office, multiple volunteer fire departments, and a chopper are involved in the search. LASAR (Lower Alabama Search and Rescue)
has been called to assist.
