OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A hospital spokesman says another teenager
has been left at a Nebraska hospital even as lawmakers prepare to
lower the age limit for the safe haven law.
The law allows children up to age 18 to be abandoned at
state-certified hospitals without fear of prosecution.
A 17-year-old boy was dropped off at Nebraska Medical Center in
Omaha late Wednesday, a hospital spokesman said Thursday.
If the drop-off is classified as a safe-haven case, he would be
the 24th child left at Nebraska hospitals since the law took effect
in July. Three have been from out of state.
Nebraska lawmakers will meet beginning Nov. 14 to lower the age
limit.
