Paying The Price For Junk

Paying The Price For Junk

Almost 600 property owners in Mobile County got the warning... clean up or pay up!

»  Comments | Post a Comment

562 warning were sent out to property owners in May. The warning was simple... clean up or pay up!

Since then, Mobile County's junk cops have written 21 tickets at $150 dollars a pop. If property owners don't make an effort to clean up, they can get a ticket every two weeks.

County officials say yards with towers of trash and dead cars are the number one complaint from neighbors.

So far, only seven property owners have failed to pay their tickets or clean up their property. Jackie Williams is one of the Environmental Patrol Officer enforcing the junk law. "We're not out there like storm troopers were out there trying our best to work with the people not against the people. Some people just don't accept change."

County officials say they plan to sue the violators in civil court to get the fines and court costs.
