ATLANTA (AP) - Former Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell, who has spent
more than two years in prison and a halfway house for tax evasion,
is scheduled for release on Friday.
The 55-year-old Campbell, who served eight years as Atlanta's
mayor, was convicted in 2006 of evading taxes on more than $160,000
income. He was acquitted of racketeering and bribery charges.
Campbell was sentenced to 30 months in prison and began serving
his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institute in Miami. He has
been at a Salvation Army halfway house in West Palm Beach, Fla.,
since August. His term was shortened by 117 days because of good
behavior.
