The Grand Opening of the Parkway Sail Center, for senior citizens south of I-10, held it's Grand Opening with displays, door prizes, and old time Gospel music. Ms Senior Mobile County sang, and the B.C. Rain High School band had everyone cheering. There were speeches from Mobile Councilman John Williams; Al Stokes, Chief of Staff to Mobile's Mayor; and County Commissioner Mike Dean. . The Center actually opened a few months ago and now serves forty to fifty lunches Monday through Friday. The Center also provides a variety of activities and learning opportunities.
Most of the center visitors live in the Dog River - Dauphin Island Parkway vicinity and are grateful to have a Senior Center in the neighborhood. The project was begun by area resident and retired teacher Betty Fowler. Early last year she gathered a committee with the intention of establishing the Center.
The Center is located at the Way of Life Community Church, 1760 Riverside Drive, Mobile.
