If you live in Chickasaw, prepare to pay more on your water bill.

Residents in Chickasaw get their service from Prichard Water Works. The board voted to increase their rates by 15% starting next month. According to city officials, the increase will help them pay for upgrades to the system that are mandated by the state.

However, Chickasaw's newly elected councilman says it's not fair that people in his city have to pay extra. Adam Bourne believes that people in Chickasaw should get better maintenance and customer service if they have to pay more.

A spokesperson for the water board says that the rate increase generated will allow the water board to continue the same level of service.
