Tensions are high after mayoral election in Evergreen, Alabama. Larry Fluker, the city's first-term mayor has been re-elected. It was very narrow, and hotly contested win. The election was decided after the counting of ten provisional ballots. Fluker came out two votes ahead of his challenger, Pete Wolff III. This election has sparked racial anxiety. Wolff is white, and Fluker is Evergreen's first black mayor. In a previos runoff, Wolff finished two votes ahead of Fluker. That day, City Hall was packed with people waiting to hear the results--blacks grouped together on one side and whites on the other. The final result hinged on today's counting of ten provisional ballots. After the ballots were counted, Fluker was declared the victor. Wolff says he will file a lawsuit.
