MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama officials are trying to get
through one day without a traffic fatality anywhere in the state.
Gov. Bob Riley has declared Friday as Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day. The day is also being observed in many other
states. The push for the no fatality day is backed by a variety of
groups involved in highway construction and safety.
Alabama transportation officials say the state averages nearly
three deaths each day in traffic accidents.
