Election day has come and gone, and, perhaps, the heated debate over annexation can now be put to rest. Much controversy led up to the vote, with both sides hurling accusations at one another. In the end, the people spoke and the results were mixed.
Four areas placed their vote: Moffett, Theodore, Windmill Place, and the Dominion/Wellington area.
A solid win for annexation in Theodore and Windmill Place: Theodore residents were 72% in favor of annexation. 65% of voters in Windmill Place supported the proposal.
Those in the Moffet and Dominion/Wellington area disagreed, however. Voters in both areas said no to the City of Mobile's invitation. Moffett area residents opposed the measure at a rate of 57%, while their neighbors in Dominion/Wellington were 65% opposed.
In the end, the City of Mobile will welcome-in two more communities. On the other hand, two others said thanks, but no thanks, and chose to remain a part of the County.
